The teenage girl - Hannah Weller aged 17. She lives at home with her parents and little brother. At the beginning of the film she is doing her A levels at collage but her grades are low due to the fact that she looks after her brother. She has a strong dislike for her mother as she has been an alcoholic for all of Hannah’s life. Then when Hannah was 11 her mum gave birth to Joshua, Hannah helped her dad raise Joshua. when Hannah was 13 her dad got a full time job and was hardly ever around so she was left to cope with her alcoholic mother and raising her little brother all by herself. Hannah has been hit by her mother before, on several occasions starting from the age of 12, the abuse isn’t recurring it happens once in a while and then Amanda tries to buy her something to make her feel better but then turns back to the alcohol not learning from her mistakes.

The little brother - Joshua Weller aged 6. He lives at home with his parents and Hannah. He is closest to Hannah and is scared of his mother as she has lashed out on him before while she has been drunk.

The mother - Amanda Weller aged 39. Had Hannah when she was 22 and has been drinking ever since. She feels that Hannah took her youth and that she never got to fully live her life so turned to alcohol. She isn’t sure whether Joshua is Christopher’s child as she has committed adultery several times. Amanda has hit both of her children on different occasion and shows some remorse by buying them presents to apologise but this doesn’t last long as she cant cope with being a mother and starts drinking again quickly. Amanda doesn’t love Christopher anymore and whenever they argue blames him for ruining her life saying that its his fault because he got her pregnant, she has also thrown the fact that Joshua may not be his child in his face in arguments, she also more recently moans at him because he’s never around and accuses him of being a bad father.

The father - Christopher Weller aged 41. When his wife first started drinking he believed that she just suffered from most natal depression . He practically raised Hannah by himself while Amanda went out and got drunk. When Amanda fell pregnant with Joshua Christopher had doubts that he was actually his so was very distant from the child so Hannah stepped in and helped to raise Joshua. After 2 years of trying to raise Joshua as his own Christopher felt that he needed to distance himself from Joshua and started to feel like he couldn’t cope with Amanda’s alcoholism so got a full time job and started taking on extra work trying to avoid being at home.
